Group Therapy

Why would I attend group therapy?
Group therapy offers a unique opportunity for deep personal growth and insight. Group work offers a place of relational support, as well as a depth and breadth of healing and therapeutic potential due to the assembly of unique voices and perspectives which make up each group.
While in individual therapy, the therapist-client relationship is the primary one through which the therapeutic journey unfolds, in group therapy, this journey is held, witnessed and developed with the group as a whole.
A group offers multiple mirrors: reflecting moments of identification and separation; resonance and dissonance; understanding and misunderstanding. These experiences are deeply therapeutically valuable and held safely, in the strong and steady hands of the therapist.

Groups

I run both online and in-person support groups for a variety of different client groups, including adolescents with scoliosis and expats. Click below to find out about current groups.
Individual vs. Group Therapy
Trust: Deep trust and bonds can form with multiple members of a group, though this can take some time
Individual
Group
Trust: Building trust with a therapist may happen more quickly than in a group
In-Conjunction: In some instance working individually with a therapist alongside group work may be helpful
In-Conjunction: Some individual sessions may be necessary to prepare for groups, or integrate learning
Therapeutic goals: Highly individualised and established in discussion with therapist
Therapeutic goals: Depends to some extent on the predetermined intention of the group and members
Cost: Higher due to the individual nature of the work
Cost: Lower due to group splitting the therapist's time
